I am so excited to collaborate with Cassandra, from Stacked House Mama, to create this post for you! It is all about self care for busy moms, like you and me.
I think that the most difficult aspect to manage when it comes to self-care for us, moms, is prioritizing. We tend to always put ourselves last or simply overlook our moments by being so deep into our daily chores.
If you have made a schedule to allow yourself some self-care moments throughout the week, I’m so proud of you!
And if you haven’t… well, that’s what I’m here for. I understand how hard it is to find time, energy and work through our own unreasonable “guilt”. Self care for busy moms should be a thing!
Have you ever noticed that a lot of times, when we are doing something exclusively for us, there is always this nagging voice in the back of our minds telling us we should/could be using that time to do something else?
Laundry, dishes, mopping, taking the kids out, working on a craft for them… there is always something else that we, as moms, think we should be doing other than spending time on ourselves.
So, let’s start changing that mindset today. Why? Because you are important. We are!
To ease your way into it, check these 10 ideas created by me (the first 5) and Cassandra (the last 5).
They are easy to do and take less than 15 minutes from start to finish – and I promise, one step at a time, you will start enjoying these moments in no time!
10-minute morning stretch
I’ve never been a morning person in general, and I thought that getting in as much sleep as possible in the morning would help me feel more rested throughout the day. Little did I know, that wasn’t exactly true.
In the last few months, I have been intentional in setting my bedtime for 30 minutes earlier than my regular time and waking up 30 minutes earlier than my kids.
Every morning now, knowing the time my kids generally wake up, I jump out of bed before them. I drink my coffee alone, in the quiet, and I do this 10-minute simple stretch. The energy it gives me is insane!
It also gets my head in the right place and gets me ready to take on the day ahead with much more ease.
Homemade Hair Mask
I do this every Friday because it is so simple and quick. And not only that, I get that fulfilling feeling of taking care of myself. You can check the full recipe and how-to instructions here – and yes, this effective, affordable, and simple 15-minute hair mask uses a kitchen staple: CORNSTARCH!
Sugar + Lotion Exfoliation
This is what I personally do for some relaxing time: legs exfoliation!
How to:
- Have a bowl of sugar
- Apply a generous amount of lotion on the area
- Dip your fingers (still drenched in lotion) into the sugar bowl
- Exfoliate using circular motions
So easy to do, with amazing results, and leaving your body extremely smooth.
Mindless reading – NON-PARENTING BOOKS
I know, I love reading about parenting and motherhood too. But, sometimes, it is necessary for us to let our minds wander off to other worlds and just enjoy an hour of mindless reading.
My favorite way to do that is by engaging in some light stories in the evening. I prefer easy, almost silly fiction that doesn’t require much “deep thinking”, but has also done so with serious novels or documentaries as well.
Check out these 5 books for light reading that will surely help you take your mind off of the serious stuff for a bit.
Journaling
This is something that I’ve done my entire life, up until I had kids. Ever since then, it was hard for me to find the time to sit and handwrite things in a notebook. Recently, I started venturing on that again and I cannot tell you the beneficial impact it has had on my week.
Every other day, during my kids’ nap time, I sit in front of a window (or outside) and I write a page or two of my days, thoughts, and emotions.
After the first week, it engraved in me so much that I’m not able to keep not one, but four journals: one of myself and my life, a prayer book, and one journal for each of my kids narrating our days together, my thoughts on something cute or funny they did that week, and giving them advice for their adult years.
I plan on giving them these journals once they turn 18 and that thought warms up my heart!
If you are interested, these are the journals I got. I wanted more of a “vintage” look and love, love, love these!
Now, for Cassandra’s great ideas for self care for busy moms:
As a mom Sometimes you need to get away and take a quiet break. There are so many stresses and issues that arise.
When it comes to self-care, one can never be too busy. It is essential to take care of your body and mind.
Meditate
Take a moment and sit in the silence. Allow your mind to be cleared and find yourself. Taking time to meditate in your busy routine can definitely increase your productivity.
This will help you focus more on what is important in your life. Meditation is also believed to improve self-awareness and reduce negative emotions.
Take long bubble baths
Clear your mind and scrub your worries away. This is a great time to sit back, relax and drink some wine. Taking time for yourself is crucial in bettering yourself.
Think about your day and release the stress you’re holding. Give yourself love while tending to your skin. There are plenty of essential oils and bath bombs to help your skin glow.
Visit the chiropractor
If you are feeling a bit funky, this can help.
This is a great way to release the pains that you’ve been dealing with. You can come out feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Regular routine maintenance is a must for our bodies. If you get your body feeling great, your mind will follow right along.
Give yourself a foot spa
Giving yourself a little foot treatment is perfect to get that pep in your step. A little foot scrub can go a long way.
Maybe give yourself a pedicure and make your toes look pretty. Step out the door ready to tackle this summer heat.
In addition, it would not be a bad thing to go shopping for new summer sandals. Who knows, it could increase your confidence.
Play some puzzles or mind games
What better way to sharpen the mind than to challenge it. This is a great way to increase mental focus.
It will be better for you in the long run considering it can also help with memory. Playing mind games has a huge impact on increasing attention to detail and remembering more.
I hope you enjoy (and use) these tips from us!
And remember to take care of yourself, deal? You’re important too, mom!
