I know, I love reading about motherhood and parenting too. But, today, take some time to get your mind off of momming for a minute. These lovely stories will make you forget about real life… at least for an hour until the babies are up from their nap.

It’s Friday, which means it’s Mommy’s Me Time! Today I really want to tell you all about these lovely, light summer books I’ve found.
While I love reading motherhood and parenting books, as well as relationship and marriage books, sometimes I just really want a chill, enjoyable, almost “silly” story to lose myself into.
I’ve read all of these and I couldn’t love and recommend them more. They are all easy to read, fun stories that will truly help get your mind off of the “serious” stuff for a while.
Light summer books every mom needs to read this season
First off, if you don’t already own one, I highly recommend you get a Kindle! Not only you get hundreds of free options through Kindle Unlimited, but the paid books are also much cheaper than a paperback!
Even if you are a lover of traditional books like myself, you will find that more practical way of reading on a Kindle when you are a mom is amazing!
Additionally, with a Kindle being waterproof, summer reading is easier than ever.
There are three Kindle options to choose from that I use, love, and absolutely recommend for all moms!
Kindle Paperwhite Oasis, Waterproof and 2x storage: The thinnest, lightest Kindle Paperwhite yet, now waterproof (summer reading on the beach? Check). A single battery charge lasts weeks, not hours. The built-in adjustable light lets you read indoors and outdoors, day and night.
Kindle – Built-in Front Light: Purpose-built for reading with a glare-free display that reads like real paper, even in direct sunlight. Highlight passages, look up definitions, translate words, and adjust text size—without ever leaving the page!
Kindle Oasis – Now with adjustable warm light: The best 7″, Paperwhite display. Adjustable warm light to shift screen shade from white to amber. Waterproof, thin, and light ergonomic design with page turn buttons. Reads like real paper with the latest e-ink technology for fast page turns.
Now for the best light summer books for us, busy, kid-focused moms!
1 – “Watermelon” by Marian Keyes
The first time I read this book, I was 18, single, and living in Brazil. I’ve read it almost every year since then!
It’s a light story about a woman, Claire, who is dumped by her husband, James, the day she gives birth to their first daughter.
A super fun read with a very cool ending! You’ll be shocked at who she decides to date…
“When happiness makes a guest appearance in one’s life, it’s important to make the most of it. It may not stay around for long and when it has gone wouldn’t it be terrible to think that all the time one could have been happy was wasted worrying when the happiness would be taken away.”
2 – “Confessions of a Shopaholic” by Sophie Kinsella
I probably couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve read this book by now. I own all hard copies as well as Kindle versions of every book in this collection!
“Becky Bloomwood has a fabulous flat in London’s trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season’s must-haves. The only trouble is, she can’t actually afford it—not any of it. Her job writing at Successful Saving magazine not only bores her to tears, it doesn’t pay much at all. And lately, Becky’s been chased by dismal letters from the bank—letters with large red sums she can’t bear to read. She tries cutting back. But none of her efforts succeeds. Her only consolation is to buy herself something… just a little something.”
If you are a “series” kinda mom (like me), this one is for you! Get the full (12 books) Shopaholic Series here! Such a fun and interesting story!
3 – “The Nightingale: A Novel” by Kristin Hannah
Although there are some mixed reviews about this one, there is a reason this book is a bestseller with a 5-star rating!
It has love, it has drama, it has family troubles and relationships, it has war… one of the best readings for mom entertainment! It will certainly get your mind off of your own troubles for a little while. Couldn’t recommend it more!
“If I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: in love we find out who we want to be; in war we find out who we are.”
Treat your hair while you read? Yes, please! Check out this super easy homemade hair mask using cornstarch! Yep, you read that right 🙂
I really hope you love these light summer books as much as I do!
Even if it’s just one hour every week, it makes such a difference taking some time to let our mind wander away from everyday life… And these books are a great way to do that!
Let me know what you think!
